Selenium is an essential trace mineral and is one of the strongest antioxidants in our body, due to its role in the gluthathione perocidase enzyme (GSH-Px), which is pivotal in the protection of the cells against oxidative stress and free radicals. 

Berthelsen Selenium is a vegan supplement with organic bound and easy absorbed mineralbased selenium yeast (LYNSIDE Forte SE+ 2000) with L-selenomethionine. 

Our body can't form its minerals on its own, so it is important that our balanced diet is rich in minerals. Unfortunately for the scandinavian population, we have quite low natural occurances of selenium in our soil, which means that our vegetables and contain less selenium. This makes scandinavians more subject to lack of selenium. 

Our nails are often good at detecting a selenium deficiency. The selenium from our diet i predominantly used as antioxidants and to maintain the immune system. The "leftovers" of selenium is then used to maintain the nails, if there are any leftovers in the first place. Weak nails can therefore be a sign of selenium deficiency, due to lack of enough selenium in your daily diet.
