Lecithin is a generic term for amphipilic fatty acids, whcih can attract both water and fatty substances, and includes the phospholipids, which are used in all cell membranes. Lecithin is naturally rich in inositol and phosphatidylcholine. Choline is used in the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is essential to the function of ther nerves in our brain and nervous system.
Choline from lecithin is also important for the body's ability to "burn" fat, since it helps our body dissolve the fatty acids, so they can be transported around in the body with ease. Choline is therefore assisting in the maintenance of our liver, as choline prevents the accumulation of fatty acids in the liver.
Choline contributes to the following:
- normal metabolism of fatty acids
- maintenance of normal liver function
- normal homocystein metabolism
